I work permanent regular hours. Can my employer reduce my hours?

An employer cannot reduce your contracted hours unless there are good reasons. If an employer has good reasons to make cuts to employees contracted hours then they are required to consult with the Union. Where agreement is reached that contracted hours need to be reduced employees may be paid a partial redundancy to compensate for the agreed reduction in permanent hours. Employees should therefore definitely seek advice from their Union in these instances as an employee who agrees to reduce their contracted hours is in fact agreeing to a change to their contract of employment.
