I am a casual employee and I often work short shifts. Is there a minimum my employer has to pay me?

All awards and agreements contain a 'minimum engagement' clause. This clause tells you the minimum number of hours your employer must pay you for each engagement (shift).

Most HACSU members will have a minimum engagement of 1 or 2 hours.

If your award or agreement specifies that you have a minimum engagement of 2 hours, for example, it means that even if you are required to work for only 1 hour, your employer must pay you a minimum of 2 hours wages.
