When I am on sick leave can an employer require me to produce a Doctor’s certificate?

Yes, Awards state that an employee needs to prove to the satisfaction of the employer that their absence is because of sickness. This provision therefore allows an employer to require the production of a medical certificate as proof. However HACSU believes that all employees must be treated equally and that if and when an employer requires a certificate this should be established in a policy which applies to all employees.
