HACSU covers almost all classifications of employees in Tasmania’s health and community services sectors, whether full-time, part-time or casual. Our Members include Allied Health Professionals, Nurses, Support Workers, Administrative and Clerical Staff, Advocacy and Support Staff, Personal Care Staff, Ancillary Staff, Cleaners, Grounds Staff, Tradespersons, Kitchen Staff and many more.

 

Who can join?

Employees working in the following industries are encouraged to consider joining HACSU:

  • Aged Care Employees: All employees of any Tasmanian aged care facility. 
  • Ambulance Employees: Ambulance Paramedics, Communications Officers and Ambulance Support Personnel.
  • Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Services: Certain occupations employed in the Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Services Sector (with the exclusion of Child Care Workers). 
  • Private Health Sector: All employees (other than Medical Practitioners and Dentists) in private hospitals, dental clinics, private medical centres or private health centres (including doctors’ surgeries), Diagnostic Services Workers including Medical Scientists, Administrators and Phlebotomists.
  • Public Sector Health Workers: All State Government employees (other than Medical Practitioners or Dentists) employed in the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Certain State Government employees in the Department of Primary Industry Water and Environment and the Department of Justice.

What does HACSU do?

HACSU’s primary objective is to improve the working lives of its Members, by:

  • negotiating improvements in wages and conditions;
  • protecting Members’ rights; and,
  • working with Members to organise workplaces around workplace issues.

HACSU also assists Members by making submissions to governments and other authorities to ensure Members’ needs and rights are considered in decisions.
