RHH medical orderlies establish new consultative mechanismMedical orderly members at the Royal Hobart Hospital recently resolved to establish a more effective communication and consultation mechanism to help resolve workplace issues. This follows concern by members over a long period about the lack of regular formal communication and consultation on important workplace issues within this department. Whilst members recognise the efforts of senior management in this regard, communication at a more local level has been extremely poor. Members have therefore decided to implement a consultative process that will enable delegates to meet regularly with management to discuss issues and obtain information. This process will also allow all members greater input into discussions and facilitate better working relationships within the group. Management has indicated their support for this process. "Members are really concerned about consultation and this could be a good way to get information to the members," he said. "Many of the problems we have in the orderlies' area could be avoided if we have genuine consultation and respect from management. I hope this idea works well for the members.
