HACSU Nurses Sub BranchHACSU member and EN, Merylyn Eiszele, has just been elected to the HACSU Nurses Sub Branch to drive the new Enrolled Nurses Sub Committee. Merylyn has extensive experience in the caring profession. She worked as a Ward Aide at the Royal Derwent Hospital, then when this facility closed, took the opportunity to upgrade her skills when that facility was earmarked for closure. Merylyn registered as a student with the Northern Group Training Program and studied to become an EN. Merylyn took two years to complete the course finding it extremely rewarding. "The entire package provided support, encouragement, and gave me the opportunity to meet new people and foster new friendships," Merylyn said. "The training package has a large competency component that can be completed in the work environment, supported by placements in nursing facilities." "With the support of my employer, the DHHS - Mental Health, I was able to have study leave and retain my full employment while training." "Graduation day at Launceston University was a proud and rewarding day for all students as they were presented with their certificates." Merylyn did so well in her course that she won an excellence award for her achievements. Merylyn is keen to improve training opportunities for ENs. "I want to get a Sub Committee set up for EN students," she said. "There has been no training for so long. No provision has been made. The time has come to change that." Merylyn says she strongly recommends any person thinking of training to look at an information training package from Northern Group Training.
