HACSU establishes EN Sub Committee

At the January Nurses Sub-Branch meeting members agreed to the establishment of an Enrolled Nurse Sub Committee to promote the role of the Enrolled Nurse (EN) as a valued member of the nursing team.

ENs play an important role in a variety of settings, and it is important to increase community awareness of the value of the ENs. The sub committee will act as a resource for Enrolled Nurses and provide a forum in which they can raise issues of concern.

Many HACSU members have contacted the union office about difficulties they have encountered during their EN training course, and about their experiences as beginner level practitioners.

HACSU is meeting with the industry and training representatives to resolve these issues and to ensure there is consistency regarding EN traineeships. Terms of reference for the sub committee were endorsed by the NSB committee at its 13 March 2003 meeting.

If you are a HACSU member who is an enrolled or student enrolled nurse you are invited to participate in this new venture.
