RHH Grad Nurse Museum on the Move - but not yet

Recently HACSU was asked to provide feedback on a proposal to move the RHH Graduate Nurse Museum.

The museum is currently located in the Education Building in Campbell Street.

The artefacts in the Nurse Museum are owned by the Graduate Nurses' Association who operate the museum on a voluntary basis.

The need to move the museum was to make space for clinical services.

The proposal put forward was to move the Museum to a corridor opposite the mailroom at RHH.

Unfortuantely, there was not enough room to display everything, so the proposal was for rotational displays from a storage area. Feedback from members outlined several concerns with this suggestion.

The most pressing concern was that the artefacts needed to be displayed in a secure fashion, and all items in the museum's current collection be preserved.

Many nurses were worried the proposed glass display area would not be secure, and thought the storage arrangements may not be adequate.

Consultation between hospital management and the Graduate Nurses' Association was also considered important.

Another concern was that the area to be used was currently utilised for locker space for RHH kitchen staff and cooks.

There had been no consultation with these staff members (many of whom are also HACSU members) about where the lockers would be relocated.

These concerns were outlined to RHH management.

HACSU has since received information that other alternatives are being considered and whilst the museum will be moving at some time in the future, the option of a glass display area in the space proposed will not be used.

Thank you to all those members who took the time to provide the feedback that allowed for the concerns on this issue to be identified.

When HACSU receives further detailed information on this matter it will be widely distributed.
