HACSU Wins Increments for Part-time Nurses

HACSU has won an important victory for the Department of Health and Human Services to pay annual increments for all part time nurses.

This follows HACSU lodging an application with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission following lengthy delays and stalling by the Department to act on this issue.

At an initial hearing in the Commission, the Department sought an adjournment whilst they considered their position on the matter.

Unfortunately, in spite of HACSU's attempts to resolve the matter through discussions outside of the Commission, the issue remained unresolved.

HACSU eventually notified the Department that unless the union received a response, which satisfactorily addressed the matter for members, we would have the matter re-listed in the AIRC for final determination.

At the end of June the Department advised HACSU that:

  • they would agree that all part time nurses should receive annual increments, and
  • this arrangement would be implemented retrospectively from the first full pay period on or after 1 January 2002.

HACSU will meet with the Department as a matter of priority in order to discuss how the arrangements will be applied to Nurses.

Should any member require further information, please contact your regional HACSU Office.
