HACSU Wins Industrial Permanency for ex Willow Court MembersAfter sustained pressure from HACSU, the Department of Health and Human Services has finally recognized the ongoing employment claim of a large number of former Willow Court HACSU members working in Disability Services South. The Department agreed these members will remain employed as ongoing - fixed term employees with Disability Services South, unless they decide to leave or are permanently appointed, through the relevant processes to an alternative position within the State Service. The same awards and legislation that currently apply to permanent employees will cover the employment conditions of members who are ongoing - fixed term employees. HACSU Industrial Organiser, Leanne McDougall, said it was a major win for HACSU members. "For all intents and purposes, members' fears over their job security hav been laid to rest," Leanne said. "These members will be able to take annual leave without the worry that their jobs might disappear while they are away. Nor will they be subject to having their contracts removed. They will also not be subject to having contracts renewed." HACSU will still continue to urge the Department to have these members recognised as permanent employees, by the Office of the State Service Commissioner, but this may take some time.
