Members campaign for conditions and better service to public at ClarenceHACSU members at the Clarence Medical Practise have been campaigning to stop reduced staffing, reduced hours and deceased services. This important Government run bulk billing service, which caters for many low-income people, was subjected to a service review and was to have its hours severely cut back. Members reacted swiftly, holding meetings to discuss the issues and set up a committee at the worksite to advocate the views of staff and the public, and to look at ways costs could be reduced and income increased. The result of this has been a proposal, which will be trailed for two months, to reduce the proposed cutbacks to hours and to introduce some new services. There is also an agreed process for assessing the results of this trial. There are, however, still threats to hours and possibly jobs at this facility.
