HACSU members claim unpaid meal break entitlementsHACSU organizers are working on a case involving members from the North West Private Hospital who have not been paid meal break entitlements. The case resulted from queries from shift work members. Shift workers were only receiving day workers entitlements to meal breaks, which are unpaid. In fact, for a period as much as 9 years, some members had missed out on payment of 25 minutes for every shift they worked. After a stalemate between management and staff, HACSU then lodged a dispute with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. Several offers for partial back pay have subsequently been received, which have quite rightly been rejected by members who want to be paid their full legal entitlements. Negotiations are continuing.
