West Coast Health Services transfer negotiations on track

Negotiations have commenced between HACSU officials and representatives from West Coast Health and Community Services, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Zeehan Medical Union for the transfer arrangement of HACSU members.

A Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] has been agreed in principle between the Department and HACSU in relation to employment arrangements for the transfer of employees from West Coast Council, the West Coast Health and Community Services and/or the Zeehan Medical Union to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The MOU will ensure that employee's salaries, classification and conditions of employment will not be reduced as a result of the transfer.

Employees will be employed in accordance with the Community and Health Services [Public Sector] Award for non-nursing staff and for the Nurses[Tasmanian Public Sector] Award.

Employee entitlements will be maintained, including such things as:

  • all employees commencement dates will include all relevant prior service,
  • all sick leave, annual leave and long service leave entitlements accrued by the employees will be transferred,
  • employees contract hours will also not be reduced, and any probation periods already served will not be served again under the employment with the Department.

A draft contract of employment will be finalised for employee's consideration.

The contract will include a member's classification level, hours of employment, and all leave entitlements that will be transferring to the Department.

HACSU is encouraging members not to sign anything until the all concerns have been addressed and resolved satisfactorily.

It is envisaged that the transfer will occur on the 30 June 2004. Information sessions and regular report back meetings will take place with HACSU members prior to this.
