Ambulance Members Win significant wage increasesHACSU members working in the Tasmanian Ambulance Service have secured a terrific win in their latest EBA, including a 27% plus increase in wages.
The agreement, approved by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in July, also includes; The first installment of 3.5% has been back-dated to 1st October 2003. In addition to the above benefits, which have been available from the first full pay period on or after 16th July, the Agreement provides for mechanisms to review the classification structure and communications staffing levels and workload. HACSU Assistant State Secretary, Tim Jacobson, said the agreement was the culmination of months of negotiations, disputes and plenty of argument. "There was a hell of a lot of effort put in to finally get a satisfactory outcome for ambulance members," Tim said. "The Agreement is a comprehensive document which recognises the valuable service performed by ambulance members for the Tasmanian community." "Congratulations to all on a good outcome." The parties have also agreed to update the Tasmanian Ambulance Service Award to insert all of the provisions of this agreement plus all the other clauses from previous agreements. STOP PRESS HOW GOOD? As Inform goes to press, Victorian Ambulance Service members are in the Industrial Commission over their campaign for wage increases. They are seeking a 12% increase over three and half years, revised down from their original claim of 24%. They are also seeking an additional $96 per week for Paramedics. The Government is offering 9% over three years and are refusing to agree to the extra dollars for Paramedics. How good does this make the 27% Tasmanian ambulance members win look? Pretty good!
