TAS INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION awards $19 a week after union representations

The increase will take effect from the first full pay period on or after the 1st August 2004.

AS A RESULT of an application by the Trades and Labour Council (Unions Tasmania) in which HACSU participated, the Full Bench of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission handed down a decision granting workers, who rely on award rates, a wage increase of $19 per week.

This decision will affect members employed under the following awards:

  • Nursing Homes Award
  • Disability Service Providers Award
  • Community Services Award
  • Medical Practitioners (Private Sector) Award
  • Dentists Award

Members who are paid wages in accordance with an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement are not entitled to the increase if their wage rate is greater than the award rate.

Increases in meal allowances when working overtime have also increased to $12.70.

In essence this wage increase equates to percentage increases in the order of:

  • 3.7% for an ECA level 3 in Nursing Homes
  • 4.0% for Service Employee level 2 in Nursing Homes
  • 3.4% for Community Services Workers level 2B
  • 3.8% for Disability Service Workers level 3
  • 4.3% for Secretaries in Medical Practitioner Surgeries
  • 4.3% for Dental Assistants in dental Surgeries

HACSU welcomes the decision of the Commission as it provides for a real wage increase for the lowest paid workers in industries in which enterprise bargaining is not a realistic option.

Members should see the wage increase flow into the pay packet early in August of this year.
