Detox Officer Reclassification - letter of thanksDear Editor, In 1999 we were approached by management to undertake a Certificate III carers course at TAFE, with assurances given by management that we would be assisted to upgrade from our current classification of Operational Level 5 to Operational Level 6.
We attempted on many occasions to have the matter resolved, were given assurances by management that the matter was being dealt with but nothing actually happened. We then approached the HACSU office for assistance. Tim Jacobson met with us on several occasions and began correspondence with management on our behalf. No successful outcome was achieved through this process. HACSU then took the matter before the Office of the State Service Commissioner, where our case was put. As a result of the proceedings before the State Service Commissioner, HACSU achieved the result we had all been hoping for. We were reclassified to Operational Level 6 and were granted back pay for the period management had delayed the process. We are extremely satisfied with the result and very grateful to HACSU officials for all the effort put into resolving this issue. John Wilkins, Garry Vince, Shane Piesse (Detoxification Officers, Drug and Alcohol Services - 56 Collins St Hobart)
