Nurse bargaining results FANTASTIC but question marks over aged care

This round of enterprise bargaining is delivering exceptional outcomes in all nursing areas except the not-for profit aged care sector, where an interim 5%wages increase has been agreed until the outcome of the Hogan Report is known.

Outcomes of 18-20% were achieved across the public, private and for-profit aged care sectors, ensuring Tasmanian nursing salaries keep pace with our interstate counterparts. As well as wages, there have been some important wins in conditions. In some agreements we have been able to further increase paid maternity leave, reduce any requirement for medical certificates for sick leave absences, and win increases in on-call and shift penalties and other allowances.

Negotiations are continuing with the aged care employers, where it is anticipated an agreement will be reached over the next few months which will deliver further increases for nurses across the aged care industry.

Negotiations are still underway to finalise a number of remaining agreements, where it is anticipated that further gains will also be able to be made.

The assistance of the HACSU Nurse Sub Branch Executive and nursing delegates throughout this process has been invaluable.
