Red Cross Blood Service required to employ Permanents

HACSU officials were recently called in to sort out a messy situation following an announcement by the Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) they would be closing down their Hobart operations, with up to 10 possible job losses.

The ARCBS had been employing workers on contracts in breach of the enterprise agreement.

HACSU officials advised that the Award had to be followed and that those who had been employed on contract would need to have their permanency acknowledged.

HACSU officials have since been negotiating to ensure as many members as possible affected by the closure of the Hobart laboratory maintain their employment, and that those that are made redundant are offered positions with the ARCBS interstate or are assisted to find other employment.
