Home Helpers win paid travelling time

Home Help workers on King Island have won their fight to travel between clients in paid time. Members originally queried the fact that they were being required to travel between clients in their own time. Members raised this issue with management but to no avail.

This meant that they could arrive at their first clients house at 8.00am and finish at their final clients house at 1.00pm and only receive 3 or 4 hours pay.

Following advice from HACSU officials members began to document their travelling time as paid time on time sheets.

Standing firm in the face of stonewalling by management, members eventually won through, and an agreement is now in place.
