North West respite services threaten action after Violent Incidents

HACSU members working for Respite Services in the North West have had to threaten to withdraw services unless changes were made to protect staff safety.

This followed a series of violent incidents with a client, and a lack of action by management when staff reported the incidents. Staff eventually put the ultimatum that unless their complaints were addressed, they would take the ultimate action and withdraw services.

The day before staff were to take this action, management agreed on measures to fix some of the immediate problems. Negotiations are continuing about some of the longer term matters that also need to be looked at.
