Disability strike brings Immediate resultsA boil over in disability services and a watershed strike by HACSU and CPSU members in Disability Services, DHHS, statewide, has led to some major concessions from the Tasmanian Labor Government, including backfilling of all vacant positions and establishing proper staffing benchmarks and caseloads for all Tasmanian public sector disability services and facilities. Although there are many issues still to be worked through, the agreement is a major victory for HACSU and CPSU members and a tribute to the guts and determination shown by Disability Service members who have brought gains for the disabled and their carers right across the State. The agreement, negotiated by HACSU officials in the aftermath of the strike, also includes a shake-up at the top of disability services, with new service coordinator positions, a process for fast tracking vacancy filling, establishing formal criteria for filling vacancies, new vehicles and phones, other new positions within the service and a significant increase for disability services within the coming State budget. For full details of the strike action and subsequent agreement, see Article entitled "That's it! We've had it!"
