North West Worksite Committees Spread

Three more HACSU worksite committees have been formed in the North West of Tasmania following their success in other areas of the State.

HACSU Worksite Committees have been formed at the Yaraandoo Nursing Home in Somerset, at the Salvation Army Levenbank Nursing Home at Ulverstone and the Tandara Nursing Home in Sheffield.

Most sections of these workplaces are now represented on all sites, giving a substantial boost to the level of representation for workers.

There is a range of issues that need to be tackled across the various sites. New committee members have had, or are lining up for, training to improve their skills and knowledge in negotiations.

An important issue that is being dealt with at Yaraandoo is the matter of who is going to pay for the new uniforms.

Management initially tried to get workers to pay for the new uniforms however workers felt that this was not fair and are working through the Worksite Committee to get the matter sorted out.
