Calvary Health Professionals AgreementHealth Professionals at Calvary Hospital have recently registered their new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Negotiations began in 2004, but were deferred until the outcome of the public sector Health Professionals' Campaign was known. Ultimately, staff at the St. John's Campus and Tower Road (Calvary outpatients) have negotiated a 5% wage increase with an additional 4% to apply from 1 July 2006. Steve Ryan, Social Worker at Tower Road, said, "We just wanted some equity with the State system." The new agreement also aims to provide a clearer career path for staff. As Steve highlights, the "lack of career structure makes it difficult to recruit and retain skilled staff." The agreement will cover occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists and social workers and will be in place until July 2007. Importantly, the agreement was lodged with the State Commission before the new workplace relations laws took effect.
