Mother's Day Classic - More than an exercise kick

This year, for the first time, the Mothers Day Classic was held in Hobart. The event attracted around 1,000 participants who ran or walked between four and eight kilometres.

The Mothers Day Classic is an annual fundraising walk/run for breast cancer research. It is organised by Women in Super, a national network of women working in the superannuation industry. This year's Tasmanian event was also organised by Womensport and Recreation Tasmania, with Members Equity Bank - the Super Funds Bank - as the major sponsor.

The Classic was also held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Over 30,000 Australians walked or ran in the name of breast cancer research this year well exceeding previous turnouts - and making the Mothers Day Classic the largest charity fun run in Australia.

The Mothers Day Classic, Members Equity Bank and all of those who participated on the day, provided the National Breast Cancer Foundation with a vital boost to ongoing research and development. The money will fund research that works towards finding a cure for the most common cause of cancer death in Australian women and create further understanding of the disease throughout the community.

There are many reasons why people across Australia have become involved in this community event. Not only is it a positive way to start a Mothers Day tradition, it is also a chance to remember and celebrate the lives of those we have lost to the disease or who are currently fighting it.

Exercise was not the only benefit of the day. Participants also joined in warm-up aerobics, and were treated to free entertainment both before and after the event.

Tony Beck, Head of Workplace Business said Members Equity Bank was proud to be involved in such a worthwhile cause.

"As breast cancer can affect women and their families physically, socially and financially, it's in all of our interests to find a cure."

St. Anne's Home 'Abreast of the Best in Care' team won a prize for the 'largest corporate group.'
