HACSU Activities at the Royal Hobart HospitalHACSU Activities at the Royal Hobart Hospital HACSU members within the Food Services Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital are building on their existing delegate structure. HACSU delegates and Industrial Organiser Robbie Moore recently discussed ways to improve the current delegate structure. During discussions it became evident that some areas and shifts in the Food Services Department were not as well represented as others. The Food Services Department is a large department with Food Service Officers (FSO) allocated to different areas such as production, distribution and the staff cafeteria. Delegates agreed that members would be better represented if nominations for new delegates targeted each group. At the time of writing the process is well underway. This will mean that existing delegates responsibilities will be shared more equitably. Each delegate will be more familiar with the members in their area and the types of issues they may encounter. Once the new delegate positions have been endorsed delegates will meet regularly and are resourced by HACSU and will be provided with training. The increased structure will enable workers to support each other, rather than the role of the workplace delegate falling solely to one person. It also allows workers to feel empowered and involved in resolving their own workplace issues. Delegate Diane Bellette said, "It is very pleasing that my co-workers have realised that a group such as this has the potential to achieve real change in our workplace." HACSU Industrial Organiser, Robbie Moore, is also working with all existing RHH Delegates to identify and recruit additional Delegates in other areas of the RHH and the Repatriation Centre site.
