Health Professionals Nexus DisputeUnder the new Health Professionals Agreement, an updated nexus salary level is to be calculated by 1 July each year. The nexus is reached by reviewing health professional salaries nationally and calculating an average, which is then paid to Tasmanian health professionals. HACSU has concerns with the most recent figure calculated by the State Government. HACSU Assistant State Secretary Tim Jacobson said, "We think the figure provided to HACSU is flawed." The Government has paid health professionals a 3.11% increase from the first full pay period in July, but HACSU believes the correct figure could be as much as 1% higher. "Since the last nexus was calculated the classification structure for Health Professionals in Western Australia has changed significantly. The State Government wants to use a salary point in the new WA agreement to calculate the nexus which is not the top of the non-promotable range." "The principle on which the nexus was based was that the Government would use the 'top of the non-promotable salary range' as the figure for comparison for each of the States," Tim explained. The disagreement over which salary figure should be used as the WA comparison is listed for conference in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission for early August.
