Non-medical Staff Refuse to be Singled OutHospital Aides and Environmental Service Officers at the Royal Hobart Hospital have resolved not to use the signing in/signing out boards imposed on them by management. The HACSU members were angered by Management's proposal to implement a signing in and out white board on the wards for Hospital Aides and Environmental Service Staff. The proposal meant that workers would have had to make a note on the board every time they left the ward; whether they were going off the ward to use the toilet, restock or attend an emergency situation. Management argued that the sign in/sign out boards were necessary because they had concerns about some staff taking extra long breaks. HACSU believes that it isn't fair to punish a whole section of employees for the unsubstantiated actions of a few. Industrial Organiser Robbie Moore says that "If there are problems with individual staff management should take it up with them. Staff already report to a manager about what they are working on and where they are going. This proposal singles out particular groups of employees for extra scrutiny. It does not apply to all hospital staff and that is unfair."
