Ambulance EBA – meetings commenceAs we go to press HACSU is discussing our claim in the upcoming enterprise bargaining round for employees employed in the Tasmanian Ambulance Service. The claim was developed following calls for submissions, surveys and two days of discussions between HACSU Ambulance Executive members. This agreement will focus largely on safety, training and careers. The Tasmanian Ambulance Service has over the past few years suffered a significant increase in demand, this year it looks like an increase in the order of 10-12%. These increases are having a major effect on our members, which must be addressed. Unfortunately the Ambulance Service relies heavily on overtime and members working additional hours to cope with the demand. Such a short sighted approach cannot work for any significant length of time, the effect that this workload has on members fatigue and their capacity to balance work and family commitments cannot be ignored. Members are seeking moderate salary increases but clearly expect that the Government delivers on the pressing issues contained within the claim. It is anticipated that once members have signed off on the claim that it will be lodged with the Government and negotiations commence prior to Christmas.
