Paid Paternity Leave Doubles in Four Years

Paid Paternity Leave Doubles in Four Years But Still Only Available for a Few A survey recently completed for the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workforce Agency (EOWA) on paid paternity leave reveals few men have access to paid paternity leave.

Of the 1406 organisations surveyed, only 32% provided any paid paternity leave, an increase from 15% in 2001.

However, of those who provided paid parental leave, 67% provided only one week's paid leave.

Tasmania tied with Queensland for the lowest percentage of organisations that provided paid paternity leave, with only 21%, compared with 50% in the Northern Territory and 45% in the ACT.

Rates of paid maternity leave were somewhat higher, with 46% of responding organizations providing some form of paid maternity leave. This rate has increased from 23% in 2001.
