Union Shopper Saves Members CashLynette McLeod, who works for Housing Tasmania as a Customer Service Officer in Launceston, decided recently to renovate her kitchen and thought she would give Union Shopper a call to see if they could help her get a better deal on appliances. Union Shopper is a free service for union members. They use their purchasing power to gain substantial discounts on behalf of union members. Union Shopper offers a shopping service for a wide variety of household goods, from white goods to cameras and computers. They also compare prices on services such as theme park tickets, insurance, services and loans. Initially, Lynette says she, "ran all over the place getting quotes" for a glass cook top, electric fan forced oven, separate grill and slide out range hood for her new kitchen. The lowest quote she found was from a local Launceston supplier. "I found out about Union Shopper through HACSU, so I gave them a call and told them what I was looking for and the quote that I'd already got. I got a call back the next morning and was told that Union Shopper could get me everything for $430 less than my lowest quote, including delivery from Hobart." Lynette explains how Union Shopper works, "you have to give them the model number and they'll phone around on your behalf to find the lowest quote, if you want to accept the quote they will organise someone from the supplier to call you to organise payment and delivery." Lynette was so happy with the service, and the money she saved, that she plans to use Union Shopper for a number of other purchases. "I found their service to be very prompt and effi cient. They were very friendly and I'd definitely recommend them. I'll probably get a quote for a dishwasher or a pool table for the shed through them too." "It was a real pain to do all the price comparisons on foot, I spent all my lunch breaks for about three weeks running around. I should have just gone to Union Shopper in the first place," Lynette said. Union Shopper 1300 368 117 www.unionshopper.com.au
