Disability Workers Endorse Interim AgreementBy ROBBIE MOOREHACSU members within a large percentage of the not-for-profit disability service sector have endorsed an interim agreement that delivers improved wages and conditions. HACSU is now in process of registering the agreement with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The interim agreement has been negotiated between HACSU and National Disability Services, which represents most not-for-profit employers within the disability sector. The agreement delivers the following benefits to members:
Unfortunately, some employers have refused to sign up to this agreement. HACSU will be talking to members in these worksites about how we can convince these employers to deliver decent wages and conditions. The next phase of this campaign will ensure the Government delivers on funding that is required to pay for these improved wage conditions. HACSU has recently begun this process with National Disability Services, and will be meeting with State and Federal Government ministers once this agreement is registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. In the event that the Government does not fund these increases HACSU members have endorsed a political strategy to force the Government to deliver fair wages and condition disability service workers.
