New Union Body for AmbosBy MIRANDA JAMIESONHACSU is leading the way within the National Ambulance Scene. After organising and hosting a national conference in late 2007, HACSU was recently involved in the creation of a national union body for Ambulance. The new organisation has been named the National Council of Ambulance Unions, and comprises representatives from Unions who represent Ambulance in every State and Territory across Australia. The inaugural meeting of the National Council of Ambulance Unions was held in August 2008, at the Health Services Union in Sydney. The meeting focused on issues that are in need of nationwide attention and resolution, and are closely felt by HACSU's Ambulance members, including:
There are a multitude of concerns that ambulance staff faces on a daily basis, which are increasingly becoming National issues. These concerns include ambulance ramping, patient violence and aggression, changes in clinical practice and staffing shortages. The National Council of Ambulance Unions consists of the Ambulance Employees Association, Health Services Union, Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU) Ambulance Sections and the Transport Workers Union.
