RHH Cleaners Fight Role ChangesBy ROBBIE MOOREROYAL Hobart Hospital (RHH) management has proposed major changes to the role of environmental service officers. Currently the RHH employ infection control cleaners who possess a high classification level to carry out specialised infection control clean ups. The workload of infection control cleaners has increased significantly, and rather than increase resources in specialised infection control, RHH management has proposed that general cleaners pick up many of the cleans currently undertaken by specialised infection control cleaners. To add insult to injury, RHH management proposes to do this without giving environmental service officers any increase in remuneration. As a result, HACSU members have endorsed resolution opposing this unfair increase in both workload and responsibility. RHH management has indicated that they will to continue to implement this change but HACSU members has resolved to collectively fight against this unfair proposal.
