HACSU's primary and most important role is that of working with members to improve wages and conditions, to provide industrial protection and to provide representation.

The types of Industrial activity which HACSU and its members are involved include the following:

  • Representing members in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) and Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC)
  • Improving wages and conditions
  • Protecting jobs
  • Negotiating Enterprise Bargaining Agreements and other Workplace Agreements
  • Negotiating with employers on entitlements
  • Representing members in disputes with employers
  • Representing members who have a Workers Compensation Claim
  • Protecting members in cases of workplace restructures, downsizing, reclassifications etc.

A union the size of HACSU can also provide a range of other benefits to members and their families.
