Corumbene Roster Trial - HACSU to Monitor

Members have endorsed the trial of the rosters proposed by Corumbene management. It was clear from the membership meeting held on the 3rd December 2003 that members still have serious concerns about the rosters and there is considerable concern over the reductions in hours.

The agreement to trial the rosters does not mean that HACSU has agreed to implementing the rosters on an ongoing basis. After several months of negotiations which followed members taking industrial action it was decided to recommend to members that we participate in the trial.

HACSU believes that the trial will present members with the opportunity to prove to management that the cuts are too deep and resident care will be compromised. The HACSU Worksite Committee have been arguing this case throughout the negotiations.

We need to monitor the trial to gather evidence of any problems associated with the trial rosters.

Members of the Worksite Committee have Incident report forms which members are encouraged to fill out when problems arise on their shift. Any problems, e.g. work not able to be completed, increased work pressure, residents not being attended to in a timely manner etc should be documented so we will have a clear understanding of the impact of the rosters at the completion of the trial.

Information provided by members during the trial will be used to argue our case when the negotiations recommence at the completion of the trial.
