Industrial Action imminent in Tasmanian Ambulance Service16 April 2004The dispute between the State Government and Ambulance members of the Health and Community Services Union reached boiling point last night following meetings with members over negotiations with the State Government on Enterprise Bargaining. The dispute between the State Government and Ambulance members of the Health and Community Services Union reached boiling point last night following meetings with members over negotiations with the State Government on Enterprise Bargaining. In the North West members voted to take industrial action commencing on Saturday (tomorrow). This will centre on bans on overtime. In Launceston last night members voted to commence action early next week. Members will meet in Hobart tonight to consider industrial action. Tim Jacobson HACSU Assistant State Secretary said today " The overwhelming response from members is one of anger, frustration and extreme disappointment at the way the Government has handled the negotiations. Members are extremely angry about the lack of respect shown to them throughout the negotiation process. Members are adamant that they want their issues addressed and want the Government to deal with the issues contained within their claim". Members are committed to providing a quality service to the Tasmanian community but are disappointed that the Government has failed to support them. Ambulance members are sick and tired of being the poor relations of the health system. They are not prepared to wait another three years to have their issues addressed.
