Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement Approved by Commission

22 April 2004

Today (22 April 2004) the Tasmanian Industrial Commission approved the registration of the Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement. The first payment of 3.5% or $20 will be paid to employees shortly. This increase will be backdated to the first full pay period on or after 1 January 2004. The Agreement is by far the most comprehensive ever negotiated for public sector members. In addition to the 14% wage increase, a number of important conditions and work related matters have been addressed such as excessive workload, measures to deal with bullying and harassment and change management.

Period of the agreement is from 1 August 2003 to 31 December 2006.

The agreement negotiated for members includes:

Wage increases of 3.5% or $20 (whichever is the greater) from first full pay period on or after 1 January 2004, 3.5% or $21 (whichever is the greater) from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2004, 3.5% or $22 (whichever is the greater) from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2005 and 3.5% or $23 (whichever is the greater) from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2006.
