St Luke's Nurses Dispute in the AIRC11 September 2002Nurses at St Luke’s Private Hospital met on Wednesday 21 August 2002 and voted to take their post graduate allowance dispute to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC.)A conference was held at the (AIRC)on Tuesday 10 September 2002. Nurses at St Luke's Private Hospital met on Wednesday 21 August 2002 St Luke's Private Hospital will not back pay the allowance, nor recognise the qualifications of non- tertiary trained specialist nurses other than midwives. St Luke's is the only private hospital in Tasmania which does not recognise hospital certificates for nurses who hold relevant additional qualifications. Nurses at St Luke's are very angry that their employer is not honouring an agreement that was negotiated in good faith. Future industrial action cannot be ruled out. The postgraduate allowance dispute at St Luke's Private Hospital remains unresolved. Following lengthy discussions, at the AIRC conference on Tuesday 10 September 2002, it was determined that this matter may be subject to arbitration. The hearing was adjourned at St Luke's request to enable them to seek further advice. HACSU will advise members of the rescheduled hearing date as soon as the information becomes available.
