Hacsu Members in Disabilities Commence Close-Call (Sleepover) Campaign

05 September 2002

HACSU has commenced a campaign to improve the sleepover provisions of the Disability Service Providers Award. The campaign will seek an increase in the allowance to $100 per sleepover and an improvement in disturbance definitions and facilities. HACSU is also seeking to have the clause retitled to Close On Call to reflect the true nature of the work.

Membership meetings held recently across the state endorsed a claim for an increase to the Sleepover Allowance to $100 per sleepover. The claim also includes:

Sleepovers to be called "Close On Call"
If disturbed for at least one and a half hours the close on call becomes an active night shift
Private facilities whilst on close on call
Disturbances to be more clearly defined, e.g. any occurrence from within the home which disturbs the employee
This claim has been forwarded to the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and negotiations are expected to commence soon. One meeting has been held with the TCCI and the claim has been outlined in more detail. At this stage while the employers have not arrived at their final position their initial reaction was reasonably positive. Members need to keep the pressure up by writing letters to the editor, to their local parliamentarian and any other support groups and to spread the word. If members require assistance with any of the above or wish to become actively involved they should contact the HACSU organiser in their region.
