Help is Now Available if you have Lost Contact with a Superannuation Fund12 September 2002One in three working Australians has unclaimed superannuation which is why the Australian Superannuation Industry, together with other organisations, have set up Unclaimed Super Recovery. If you are a 'lost' member, this free service can help you find your lost super and transfer it into your current superannuation fund. This project which aims to reunite people with their lost superannuation is in response to the large numbers of people in Tasmania who have lost contact with one of the superannuation funds. In Tasmania these 'lost'members funds are worth more than $2000 each on average and are usually as a result of people leaving one job and going to another without notifying their previous super fund. This is particularly significant given the history of the superannuation guarantee levy in Australia. In the 1980s the Australian trade Union Movement in partnership with the then Labor Government established superannuation as a right and moderated wage increases as an offset. This was intended to contibute to reducing unemployment (through relieving wage pressure) and to plan for and make proper financial provision for employees retirement. As such employees should remember that these 'lost' members in superannuation funds are losing earned and paid for entitlements rather than some bonus provided by employers. This project to recover employees superannuation has a very useful Website at www.unclaimedsuper.com.au For more information contact either the website or phone 1300 737 736
