Oral Health Service Members Suspend Industrial Action06 November 2002On Tuesday 22 October 2002, HACSU members met to consider recent correspondence from the Department relating to the current dispute on Therapist/Assistant ratios. The Dept had agreed to support a ratio of 1:1 and therefore members unanimously voted to suspend the bans and limitations. The Department advised on the 15 October that they now support moves towards 1:1 Therapist/Assistant ratios. This support would be contained within the paper to be provided to the Government. On the basis of the response from management, members unanimously voted to lift the bans and limitations. However members advised that they would continue to work in accordance with current safe working practices and processes until a meeting has been occurred with Oral Health Services management and formal procedures are put in place. A further meeting will be held in six weeks to consider the response from government on this matter. Whilst this issue is far from over, members are congratulated for their continued determination to have this issue satisfactorily addressed by the Department. It is on the basis of members resolve that this most recent achievement can be attributed. HACSU will be meeting with the Department over the next week to discuss interim safe working arrangements.
