HACSU members Win Commitment from employers to increases in Sleepover Payments27 November 2002Members in Disabilities have concluded Statewide Meetings and voted in favour of an increase in the Sleepover payment from $20 per sleepover to $80 per sleepover. This concludes the first stage of a successful campaign conducted by members employed in the Disabilities field and directed by the Statewide Disabilities Sub Branch Executive. The Disability Services SubBranch Executive has continued to direct the campaign for improvements in the level of payments for Sleepovers over the last 3 months. The TCCI(representing the Industry) met with HACSU on 26 August 2002 to discuss our claim for $100 per Sleepover and have now written to counter propose $80. This counter proposal is made on the basis of no paid disturbances and that there is a two year moratorium on disturbances, duration of Sleepovers and facilities. This offer was considered by the Disabilities Sub Branch Executive who believed that acceptance should be recommended to members on the condition that the length of sleepovers will not be altered and that the employers agree that during the two year moratorium the TCCI and HACSU jointly work towards an upgrade of facilities and monitor the level and frequency of disturbances. Membership meetings are have now been held in the North West, North and South and members endorsed the acceptance of the offer The next step is now to process a variation to the Award through the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. HACSU will also now proceed to discussions with the Minister for Health and Human Services. As the offer is conditional on government funding it is possible that a phasing in process may be required. HACSU will attempt to minimise the delay if a phasing in process is in fact necessary.
