HACSU Disability Services Campaign BBQ Success12 February 2009The HACSU Disability Services Campaign barbeque, held on Thursday 5 February, was hailed a huge success by both HACSU State Secretary, Chris Brown, and NDS State Manager, Margaret Reynolds.
Approximately 120 people attended the barbeque, including disability support workers, clients, and other supporters. HACSU State Secretary, Chris Brown, highlighted the importance of disability support workers and employers working together with NDS, to ensure that the Tasmanian Government funded the interim Agreement. "The vital increase in wages and conditions for disability support workers is long overdue, and it is HACSU's top priority to ensure that the Agreement is delivered," HACSU State Secretary, Chris Brown said. HACSU activist and delegate, Tony Bennett, spoke about the poor wages and conditions experienced by disability support workers at the barbeque. Mr Bennett called on the Government to close wages and conditions gap between private and public disability support workers. Mr Bennett closed his speech by offering Minister for Human Services, Lin Thorp, the petition, with over 300 signatures, calling on the Tasmanian Government to commit to fund the Agreement.
