Healthscope collective agreement update

11 May 2009

In March 2009 HACSU conducted membership meetings to discuss Healthscopes' response to our log of claims.

During the meetings members had agreed, in good faith, to propose a further offer in respect of the original log of claims.

HACSU's negotiating team met with Healthscope and advised management of members position, and on 27 March HACSU wrote to Healthscope outlining members latest position and requested Healthscope's response.

However last week, HACSU received two letters from management which indicated that they intend to reduce their original offer, including wages.

This development is a major concern, considering members rejected management's original offer which had included an 8.5 per cent increase over the lifetime of the agreement.

Healthscope's latest offer indicates that they are only willing to offer a 7.5 per cent increase, with no back pay.

This offer is very disappointing, as HACSU members believe that the current offer will do very little to ease the daily burden of making ends meet.

Members feel undervalued and second class behind their nurse colleagues.

General staff have received no pay increase for over 18 months, however nurses received a 12 per cent increase and an up front payment throughout their negotiations.

HACSU is currently requesting an urgent meeting with management to discuss improving the latest offer.

Should management reject HACSU's offer to meet, HACSU will be left with no alternative but to seek further advice from members on our next course of action.

HACSU will ensure that members are informed on whether management is willing to discuss this recent development.

If you are aware of any staff member who has not had the opportunity fo join HACSU, please encourage them to join the campaign and fight for much deserved better wages and conditions

If you require further information in relation to this matter please call HACSUassist on 1300 880 032.
