Corumbene Nursing Home - HACSU Members suspend Industrial Action14 August 2003Members of the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) at Corumbene Nursing Home met today to suspend industrial action pending the outcome of further negotiations with management regarding the long-term viability of the Home, which has a $250,000 deficit. Management have agreed to withdraw the rosters which if introduced would have made significant cuts to hours across all classifications of staff. Leanne McDougall, HACSU Industrial Officer, said: " Members are pleased that the industrial action taken so far has been successful because management now appear to be more reasonable. The rosters have been withdrawn and other ways to get Corumbene back on a sound financial footing will be explored. If the cuts had gone ahead residents would have been adversely affected because members would not have had sufficient time to provide safe care. Members again stated their opposition to any proposals which would have a detrimental affect on those in their care and are prepared to take further action if necessary."
