Corumbene - CEO reneges on Agreement - Members Angry18 August 2003Members of the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) at Corumbene Nursing Home are furious over a memo issued by the CEO, Andrew Power that has reignited the dispute over staffing cuts. Last week members met and agreed to suspend industrial action because they were led to believe that rosters implementing cuts to members' hours had been withdrawn. Negotiations were to commence this week over alternative ways to reduce Corumbene's operating costs because of it's $250,000 deficit. Leanne McDougall, HACSU Industrial officer, said: " The CEO has deliberately mislead members because he issued a memo yesterday stating that changes to rosters will happen and that members either accept that or face an uncertain future with new owners. He has done this before our first meeting with him, scheduled for tomorrow. This action has inflamed the situation and caused a great deal of concern to members and residents alike, because if theses cuts proceed resident care will be compromised. Members are meeting on site at 1100 hrs tomorrow to consider what further action they will take.
