Occupational Health & Safety Training

HACSU supports members involvement in the important issue of Health and Safety in the workplace including the establishment of Health and Safety Committees and the election of Health and Safety Representatives.

Unions Tasmania offers OHS training for Tasmanian Workplace Safety Representatives and other workers.

General occupational health and safety courses are delivered on a regular basis, specific industry courses are offered on request.

Topics covered in courses include:

  • Introduction to health and safety at work The law
  • Role and responsibilities of health and safety representatives, employers and others
  • Hazard identification, assessment and control
  • Skills in representation and negotiation
  • Sources of information

Stage 1 courses are scheduled as follows for 2004:

Training Dates and Location

Hobart: 25/26 February, 3/4 March, 26/27 May & 2/3 June

Launceston: 24/25 March, 31/3 1 April, 23/24 June & 30/6 1 July

Burnie: 18 -21 May

Stage 2 Advanced OHS Course will be held in Hobart from 28/30 April 2004

Course content includes:
  • Legislative and statistical update
  • Effective management OHS / systems / audits
  • OHS consultative process
  • Accident/incident investigation
  • Workplace visit/inspection
  • Specific hazard
