OneCare to give ongoing support to smokers

Posted on 23 November, 2023 in Social Community and Disability Sector

Recently we sent you an update about OneCare’s plan to move towards smoke free facilities at Umina Park and Rubicon Grove.

Since our last email, we got in touch with your management to ask if there’s any leeway when it comes to smokers, especially when trying to control their cravings on shift.

Samanatha O’Dwyer from HR has told us:

‘Umina Park and Rubicon Grove are the last two facilities to become smoke free. Notice of this new policy was provided to staff 8 weeks prior to being implemented, and significant support has been provided in this time to help prepare them for the new policy being introduced.’

Samanatha also said:

‘If a staff member is struggling, if they speak to Fiona or Josh, they may approve for someone to take a quick break. No one is going to get into trouble by asking for help, we appreciate that it’s going to take another 4- 6 weeks to embed the policy. We know it’s a challenge and that some days might be harder than others. We are keen to simply see people trying, working with us, and using all of the support available.’

We understand that new legislation and policies dictating smoking areas can be difficult and frustrating for smokers, that’s why we’ll continue to make sure you’re supported at work during this transition.

If you’ve got any questions or concerns about the new policy, feel free to give HACSUassist a call on 1300 880 032 so we can help you through it!
